It is becoming increasingly popular for businesses to make carbon reduction or "Net Zero" Emissions commitments or even claim to be “Carbon Neutral”, “Carbon Negative” or “Climate Positive”.
Larger businesses and public contracts are increasingly expecting suppliers to publish a
“Carbon Reduction Plan” or set “Science-based reduction targets” that line up with the UN goal of halting additional greenhouse gas emissions by 2050 at the latest. It can be confusing for small and medium sized businesses to understand what is required of them, yet SME’s make up over 90% of businesses and account for around 50% of all business-related greenhouse gas emissions and so have a vital role.
You will learn
- Why Net Zero matters to your business
- What a business carbon footprint is and how to calculate it
- How to reduce your carbon footprint
- Understanding carbon jargon
Chief Carbon Coach and Founder of Go Climate Positive, Eoin McQuone, will lead the session explaining what the jargon means in plain English, talking you through what it means to make a meaningful commitment to reducing your carbon footprint, and showing how you can make a start.

Eoin McQuone, Chief Carbon Coach at Go Climate Positive clarifies how Carbon Literacy is complimentary to our Road to Net Zero programme.
Carbon Literacy training is for the employees of the business to help them understand the carbon impact of the decisions they make and help them to create an action plan for how they are going to reduce the business's carbon footprint. For this to be meaningful, the business first needs to calculate what it's full carbon footprint is. That is the first step in the Go Climate Positive "Road to Net Zero" programme, which then goes on to help the business set science-based reduction targets, write a comprehensive action plan (which could be informed by a Carbon Literacy programme), create an engagement plan for it's other stakeholders (such as suppliers and customers, who are typically not included in a Carbon Literacy programme) and write a comprehensive transition plan explaining how the business will achieve Net Zero emissions.
In short, Go Climate Positive Road to Net Zero is a comprehensive programme to get a business measuring it's carbon footprint and achieving Net Zero. Carbon Literacy is just one of the activities that a business might take along the journey..
